New Australian F1 in Schools Champions Helped by Caedium
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations performed using Caedium Professional helped Basilisk Performance become the 2009 F1 in Schools Australian National Champions. The air flow simulations provided 3D visualization of pressure and velocity, along with drag and downforce values. Chief designer Brett Sizeland then used these results to guide the aerodynamic design of the team's CO2 dragster in order to minimize its drag and deliver a well earned victory.
More details on the CFD simulations performed with Caedium can be found at:
Basilisk Performance from Sebastopol College in Ballarat, Victoria are:
- Brett Sizeland - Design Engineer
- Aidan Cowie - Team Manager
- Ben Kersten - Resources Manager
- Warren Mahomet - Graphic Designer
Basilisk Performance won the Professional Class SENIOR and also claimed the Australian Grand Prix Corporation Fastest Car award for fastest overall car, covering the 20 m long track in 1.049 s. The team will now go on to represent Australia in the 2010 F1 in Schools World Championship to be held in Singapore in September.
The 2009 F1 in Schools Australian championship was held in 2010 so it could share the date, venue, and excitement with the Melbourne Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix.
F1 in Schools is a non-profit organization with national competitions held in 31 countries. The competitions aim to give a flavor of running an F1 team by exposing students to finance, marketing, and engineering.
